Transfer Portal: Akingbola, Leopard are the latest players to hop in
Two more players from the 2023–24 roster announced their decision to transfer a week after it was announced that highly regarded freshman Yohan Traore and Chance Westry had entered the transfer portal.
As Auburn graduates, seniors Chandler Leopard and Babatunde Akingbola declared this week that they intend to transfer from Auburn.
Verbal Commits announced Leopard’s decision on Twitter on Tuesday. Leopard, an Athens native, played 22 minutes in 18 games over his three seasons on the Plains. His most memorable moment from the previous season occurred when he pulled down a rebound in the closing seconds of the second half of Auburn’s 89-56 victory over Missouri on Valentine’s Day.
On Thursday, Akingbola, who goes by “Stretch,” became the most recent Tiger to declare that he will look for another year of eligibility abroad. Akingbola thanked Auburn supporters and the coaching staff in a Twitter message before announcing his intention to graduate this summer.
“I’m excited to see what the future holds for me,” Akingbola stated in the tweet.
Over the past four years, the 6-foot-10 Nigerian center has appeared in 50 games for Auburn; his best season was 2020–21. He played in 27 games that season, averaging 11 minutes. He shot 47% from the field and grabbed 69 rebounds.
Akingbola and Leopard’s departures bring Auburn’s total known player departures to six. The transfer portal now has the names of four members. This week, Wendell Green Jr. declared that he is getting ready for the NBA draft. Guard Zep Jasper is the only player that is no longer eligible.
