Justin Fields Shares His Thoughts On Apparent Demotion.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for a vital Week 7 game against the New York Jets on Sunday, but it is unclear who will start at quarterback for the squad. With Russell Wilson finally healthy, the Steelers are expected to turn to the veteran quarterback to lead the club against the Jets. Meanwhile, others believe it is best for Pittsburgh to continue starting Justin Fields, as the Steelers have done in each of their last six games. On Thursday, Fields discussed his prospective benching, which might begin with the Jets game. “I mean, I don’t think I’ve played good enough, to be honest,” Fields admitted, according to Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com.
“I think if I did play well enough, I don’t think there would be any sort of challenge. I’ve got a few wins… but there are areas that I could be better at.”
That was a classy response from the former Ohio State Buckeyes star, given how the QB controversy has unfolded in Pittsburgh of late. But at the end of the day, it will be up to Mike Tomlin and the Steelers coaching staff to decide which quarterback will best put Pittsburgh in a position to win.
The Steelers are 4-2 in the 2024 NFL season, and they just stopped a two-game losing streak with a 32-13 road victory over the Las Vegas Raiders last Sunday. Wilson was activated for the game, but Fields began and finished it, passing for 145 yards and no touchdowns on 14-of-24 completions. He was also sacked three times, for a loss of 35 yards. Fields’ performance did not aid his case for the permanent QB1 position, and he is aware of this. Fields, who was traded from the Chicago Bears to the Pittsburgh Steelers in March, has 1,106 throwing yards and five touchdowns with an interception on a 66.3 percent completion rate.
