Diego Moreira moved to Strasbourg on a permanent basis this summer and is no longer a Chelsea player, but he is still at
our sister club and his thoughts about the manager there are still incredibly important as some of our best young
players will be sent to Strasbourg for further development.
It is important that the club is successful, plays good football, has a coach who can develop players and has a good overall
atmosphere. According to Moreira, this is certainly true:
“I see myself here to stay. I felt at ease after coming here. I rediscovered the joy of playing and having fun with soccer. If
you do that, everything will be fine: the coach, the club, the infrastructure, the quality of life, the city,”
Moreira said in quotes published by Sport Witness.
He also spoke about his difficult time at Chelsea last season, when he was recalled from a loan spell at Lyon and promoted to the U-21 team.
“It’s true that the level of academic football is not comparable to that of professional football.
I have the impression that we are just marking time and not learning anything. Yes, we still learn something every day,
but at that time I needed to gain experience. That’s not what I was looking for.”
In the end, it looks like a switch that’s worked well for everyone. Chelsea have sent players out on loan to places where
they have little chance of playing for the first team, and Strasbourg have regulars who can help them every game.
And Moreira will have a permanent home and a place to settle down and grow.
Hopefully we’ll get more positive feedback from players. Now we have Djordje Petrovic and
Andrei Santos here and this is probably just the beginning.
