Chelsea are reportedly holding crucial transfer meetings in the coming weeks ahead of the January window to finalise
the futures of Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka. According to CaughtOffside, sources say
the Blues are hoping for a quiet January transfer window after a busy summer. £219.6m was spent,
with almost half going on Pedro Neto and Joao Felix. The investment has seen Enzo Maresca make a successful start to
his time at Stamford Bridge and the club currently sit in the top four of the Premier League. However, as has been
the case in recent years, some players are facing an uncertain time in west London.
According to this report, Chilwell and Chukwuemeka could leave Chelsea mid-season.
Both players have attracted interest from clubs this summer but have failed to attract any.
Manchester United are reportedly interested in Chilwell this summer due to the continued absences of
Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malasia. Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen to sign a new left-back.
As for Chukwuemeka, AC Milan and other Premier League clubs are said to be interested in the midfielder.
Both players have only made one appearance for Chelsea this season, a 5-0 win over Barrow in the League Cup,
showing how Maresca sees them in the squad. Asked if Chilwell would play more regularly for Chelsea after his cup appearances, he replied:
“Yes, I do. I have already said on several occasions and I would say that that, as long as Chilly [Ben Chilwell] is with us, he is a Chelsea player.
And if we need him, we give him a chance and minutes.
“We all make mistakes. “Maybe, yes, maybe,” he said when asked if he regretted telling the left-back he must
find a new club, adding: “I’m here to make a decision.” These may or may not be good decisions.
“One thing I can say is I have no ill will. I just want to look at things and think about what’s best for the club.”
