Cole Palmer has been special for Chelsea this season. This is the first time in Cole Palmer’s career that the striker has started as a regular.
However, he still managed to score 32 goals in 37 appearances for Chelsea.
Without him, the Blues would have been closer to the relegation zone, let alone the FA Cup semi-finals.
However, Mauricio Pochettino still believes there are many areas in his game that can be improved.
The Argentine also admitted that 21-year-old Noni Madueke is struggling to find a place in the team.
Pochettino wants Palmer to work on consistency and a few other things.
In an interview with Stadium Astro, the Chelsea manager said: The challenge is to help him stay on the grass and do the things he still needs to improve on.
“He needs to improve in many ways. For example, the ability to act more consistently and tactically,
learn and play not only in one position, but always performing the same movements.
He’s still young so he has to learn to take advantage of the different things he adds to his game to have a chance to perform better.
“Yes, we are at a stage where we have to support him, but at the same time we have to create in him the need to strive every day to get better.”
Palmer’s primary position was on the right wing. However, the Englishman’s preferred role is just behind the striker,
where he has been playing this season. Palmer also started in attack and has proven to be a very versatile striker for the Blues this season.
Chelsea paid Premier League rivals Manchester City £45 million to sign the England international,
but he was worth every penny and then some. At 21, Palmer clearly has time to develop, and that appears to be exactly
what Pochettino expects from the former City player when he faces his former club in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday.
