This incredibly talented young man was a sensation for the Blues.
This year has not been the most enjoyable season for Chelsea fans.
There is no doubt about it.
Mauricio Pochettino has struggled to assemble a cohesive squad from a group
of promising young players handed over to him by the likes of Todd Boeri,
and some of his senior players have left little to impress. There are some too.
However, there are some positives for fans to celebrate, including the emergence of an incredibly talented
youngster whose ratings have doubled compared to Ben Chilwell. Chilwell completed a £50m move to Chelsea from
Leicester City in August 2020 after spending around three and a half seasons at the King Power.
The Milton Keynes-born player had an excellent first season at Stamford Bridge, scoring four goals and
providing seven assists in 42 appearances. He also played an important role in the team’s second
Champions League victory, starting in nine of the tournament’s 13 games, including the final.
However, his second season in west London was a disaster, as he was sidelined for 178 days
with a torn cruciate ligament, making just 13 appearances. The next year was a little better.
He played 30 games for the Blues but had two hamstring injuries, missing 20, and has already missed 19 games this year,
with a further three due to hamstring problems, fitness issues and injuries. There were severe injuries. knee problems.
The 27-year-old has only played a total of 104 games for the Pensioners over the past four seasons,
averaging just 26 games a season and is hardly worth his price tag. Due to these ongoing injury problems,
Chilwell’s value has plummeted, with football watchdog CIES pegging the English player’s value at just €15m, around £13m, or
the amount Chelsea paid him for his services. It is valued at £37 million less than the amount originally received.
This is far from ideal for the Blues, but one positive is that the value of one of the club’s promising defenders has far exceeded Chilwell’s valuation in recent months.
