Chelsea have been praised and criticized for a number of new signings over the past two seasons.
In his two years since the new owner took over the club, the team has been gutted and completely changed.
That massive change had real effects, sometimes positive and sometimes negative.
But it was a very inconsistent start, at least for the new owners.
But one of the best and smartest acquisitions they’ve ever made is Malo Gusto.
The right-back has been in excellent form since joining from Lyon in January 2023.
Manager Fabrizio Romano recently acknowledged the obvious fact, saying
Chelsea have been “very happy” since Gusteau’s arrival.
I think they should now use Gusto as a template for new contracts.
This proves you don’t have to spend £100m on one player and you can sign four top quality players like Gust, and I’m looking for smart signings.
For one price! This makes a lot of sense to me and we need to utilize the best talent scouts we currently have at the club.
Chukwuemeka continues to train on the grass with his teammates, but it is hard to imagine that he will be ready for at most a brief appearance on the bench.
Pochettino is keen to have the midfielder back, opening up several options both in terms of midfield rotation and tactics.
His explanation of why he switched to a back five against Brentford shows how concerned he is about these issues:
“It was done to give the team a different way of playing,” Pochettino explained of the tactical change.
“We needed to give the midfielders the opportunity to not have to cover too much distance.
I think Enzo, Caicedo and Gallagher should have started, but they were very, very tired.
A player like Romeo Lavia should challenge Moises, but he is injured and is unlikely to recover in important areas.
