Chelsea have made some interesting decisions in the transfer window, but they could ultimately learn from their mistakes.
Chelsea appear to have admitted yet another transfer mistake as they look to address key parts of their squad this summer.
While the Blues spent virtually nothing in the last January transfer window, their £1billion spending in the previous
three transfer windows has been heavily criticized, largely due to a lack of progress on the pitch.
With their striker and goalkeeper causing problems in some positions, Chelsea do not seem to have what it takes to return to the top of the Premier League.
But Fichajes admitted Chelsea had made a mistake in the market and said they would be willing to sell
Robert Sánchez to raise funds for Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa. Chelsea brought Sanchez to Stamford Bridge from
Brighton last summer for £25m. But he was not a completely reliable player. He had conceded 25 goals in 16 Premier League games before the injury.
And now Mauricio Pochettino looks set to sign highly-coveted Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa,
who has been praised for his ability to stop the ball and his comfort. He has scored just 13 goals in 20 games this season and the 24-year-old fits
the bill for a top-flight transfer. But Costa is not cheap. Transfermarkt value the highly-rated goalkeeper at £40m, but Porto want at least £70m for him.
With his current contract until June 2027, the Portuguese giants can afford such a huge transfer fee.
But Sanchez is not the only goalkeeper Chelsea could sell to raise significant funds this summer.
Kepa Arrizabalaga is currently on loan at Real Madrid and is expected to leave this summer.
While he will not control the staggering £72m he earned in 2018, the sale will free up some of his wages and bring in cash to repair his balance sheet.
