Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is unlikely to join the club next season as his contract expires.
There also appears to be some tension between him and Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Silva has proven to be a key player for Chelsea since joining from Paris Saint-Germain a few years ago, but will turn 40 next season.
So now may be the right time for him to prepare for his retirement at Chelsea. Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, according to The Athletic, things don’t seem to be going well between Silva and Pochettino.
Athletic highlighted an interesting moment when the veteran Brazilian defender frustrated his coach.
The report claims that,
Silva and Pochettino had a lively exchange during Chelsea’s win over Tottenham earlier this season,
with Silva completely letting him down in their home defeat to Wolves this weekend.
After making several attempts to get Silva’s attention, Pochettino instead turned his attention to Enzo Fernandes.
The 39-year-old didn’t interrupt or listen to Silva.
Of course, with Silva’s wife revealing it’s time for a change at X, that also means they want Pochettino out.
Pochettino has 18 months left on his contract and his sacking will cost Chelsea an extra £10m for their squad,
with profit and stability clauses also applied.
They are already under scrutiny for their massive spending, with many expecting a raft of
player sales in the summer transfer window to balance the books.
The London club signed players to contracts that were too long to take advantage of the now-closed loophole,
with Athletic reporting that some players “expressed personal regret” and “didn’t see the big project they were sold for”.
But Pochettino cannot be solely blamed for Chelsea’s current problems.
According to the Daily Mail, key behind-the-scenes figures are also eyeing those in charge of recruiting players.
