It wasn’t a good day at the office for the Blues. The Chelsea player was labeled by the media as the ‘worst’ player against Wolves following another poor performance for the Blues in the Premier League.
The Blues lost 4-1 to Liverpool in midweek and while their current opponents are incredibly strong, their overall performance was disappointing and lacked quality and fighting spirit.
A response was expected and needed against Wolves on Sunday afternoon and things were looking good for Mauricio Pochettino’s side when Cole Palmer put Chelsea ahead at Stamford Bridge.
After the hosts took the lead, Matheus Cunha equalized with an effort and the Blues’ momentum looked to have evaporated from then on.
Axel Disasi scored an own goal just before the break to give Pochettino’s men plenty to do in the second half.
Cunha completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot with his second goal of the afternoon midway through the second half.
while Thiago Silva scored as Chelsea endured their most miserable performance of the season.
Gallagher has been one of Chelsea’s regulars in another disappointing season.
He made a total of 22 Premier League appearances, showing great effort in the center of the pitch. There is no doubt that he was not at his best against Wolves. To be fair, he wasn’t alone.
The Englishman lost 67% of his matches. According to the player, he won only four out of 11 ground battles and lost only one air battle.
Gallagher also failed to make much of an impact, passing the ball 11 times and failing to get a shot off the right side of midfield.
Overall, Chelsea haven’t done enough to do much and more questions can be raised about Pochettino, who has failed to impress overall since taking charge of Chelsea last summer.
The Blues sit 11th in the Premier League and look set to continue a season in a row of not qualifying for Europe at all.
There needs to be a major improvement going forward or the pressure will be on Pochettino, but it feels like every step in the right direction is going in the other direction.
