Less than a year after Karim Benzema left Al Ittihad, Arsenal and Chelsea are fiercely competing to sign him.
Karim Benzema is set to leave Al Ittihad soon despite joining the club in June 2023. Both Arsenal and Chelsea were heavily linked with a move for Benzema in January.
With the Frenchman reportedly handing in a formal request to leave Al-Ittihad. In fact, their problems at center forward made him seem like the perfect choice to bring to the club.
Although his wages have been an obstacle, it appears that the Frenchman’s desire to return to European football could override the financial aspects of his current contract.
However, according to French newspaper L’Equipe, Benzema will not be joining Chelsea or Arsenal in January. Instead, Al Ittihad are prepared to send the former Ballon d’Or winner to the rest of Saudi Arabia.
The report claims that Benzema has signed for Riyadh’s Al Nasr and Al Hilal, meaning he could line up alongside former Cristiano Ronaldo or Neymar.
However, with the Saudi Arabian Pro League transfer window closing tonight (January 30), Benzema will need to complete his move soon.
Karim Benzema, who joined Al Ittihad from Real Madrid last summer, has scored nine goals in 15 league games and provided a further five assists as captain.
However, although he continued to start the majority of games in the Middle East, a row with manager Marcelo Gallardo marred his time at the club and led to him preparing for a move.
The 36-year-old will have to share the goalscoring duties with his former Real Madrid team-mate Ronaldo if he leaves.
Having scored 20 goals in 18 appearances in the Saudi Arabian Professional League this season. However, “Al Hilal” are on top.
