Today’s article by Simon Johnson is about Robert Sanchez and Jozy Petrovic, two men competing for Mauricio Pochettino’s goals.
I think Petrovic has the edge when it comes to his performance stats. He gave up 0.87 goals per game (1.37) to Sanchez, had a 73.9 save percentage to Sanchez’s 70.5 and had six wins in eight games. It all looks promising, but we can’t go too far yet.
Finally, any comparison is based on a limited sample size for Petrovic. The statistics show that he performed very well, but played against much weaker teams and for shorter periods of time. Sánchez moved into the Premier League’s top seven, while Petrovic arrived in time to play a few games against lower-tier teams.
The only game he has played against a top team so far was against a then underperforming Newcastle side.
So we like what we see so far. We like what the numbers tell us, but we’ll have to be a little more patient and see how the new guy stacks up against the best.
