Pro League clubs in Saudi Arabia are considering fresh offers for two Liverpool players.
The summer transfer window saw Premier League giants Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Sadio Mane move to the Middle East. That said, Jurgen Klopp has no regrets about the move, with the Merseyside giants currently sitting top of the domestic league.
However, given the financial opportunities presented by Saudi Arabia, Liverpool risk losing other members of the squad if a new approach emerges.
Mohamed Salah has been heavily linked with a move to Al Ittihad, with the Egypt international receiving a £150m bid in August – at least £150m.
On the plus side for Liverpool, the legendary striker is looking to extend his contract at Anfield as negotiations continue.
However, according to Caught Offside, who spoke to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Al Ettifak has discussed the possibility of signing Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in the next two transfer windows.
The mid-table club are currently managed by Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard, who have struggled to keep their place after an indifferent season so far.
Henderson has also been linked with a move that has proved shaky but has not stopped Al Ettifaq from wanting to do business in January or beyond.
At one point it looked like an England career would be on the cards for Gomez to leave Liverpool, but he has since proven his worth through his versatility. Back injuries saw Gomez used in three different positions, making 15 starts and 12 substitute appearances in all competitions.
The departure of the 26-year-old could be difficult, but Joel Matip’s situation could be eased because the defender is absent for the season with a serious knee injury and does not have a contract in the summer.
Klopp has repeatedly stated his desire to keep the centre-back beyond 2023/24, but that has not materialized at this stage.
