Chelsea have made the first move to sign Napoli forward Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window, signing a €120m deal from the Serie A side.
Liverpool were linked with the 25-year-old in October 2023 after it was claimed the Reds had agreed personal terms with Osimhen. Walter De Maggio told Televomero via Sport Witness: “We’ve been joined by another Premier League club.
I’m talking about Liverpool. “I was contacted frequently, but I also learned something else: an agreement had already been reached. “To be clear, Napoli are not involved as this deal is between the Reds and the player. “I hope Laurentiis can keep Victor Osimhen at least until the season, but we are not sure.”
However, despite genuine interest from Liverpool, this did not materialise. Todd Bohli, 50, has spent more than £1billion on transfer fees in the United States since succeeding Roman Abramovich as owner and could increase that figure further.
The London club are under pressure to meet their FFP obligations despite “contract leaks” and if they spend as much as they have reported, their FFP obligations could rise even further.
Italian publication Il Mattino report that Chelsea are ready to release €120 million from Osimhen’s contract through Calcio Napoli. They will be keen to sign the Nigerian striker in the summer transfer window and one thing is clear at this stage: Liverpool will not be competing with them in the process.
