A Chelsea youngster has announced on social media that he is ready to return to Stamford Bridge. Diego Moreira took to Instagram to announce his return from a loan spell in France.
Moreira spent the first half of the season at Lyon, but the team’s expectations were low at this stage. That’s despite an impressive performance from the 19-year-old who temporarily tested former Chelsea transfer goalkeeper Ryan Cherki.
However, his playing time soon dried up and he became Chelsea’s new loanee, seeing the season slip away. Chelsea recalled Andrei Santos, Cesare Casadei and David Dartro Fofana from the loan period.
The latter moved to Burnley and the Italian is expected to be included in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the rest of the season. Moreira could also join that list after confirming on Instagram that his time at Lyon is over.
He said: “Lyon fans will celebrate the end of my loan today. I wanted to thank you for welcoming me from the first day, from the first game and from the first step to Groupama. “These are memories that will stay in my memory forever.
I wish both the players and the fans the best of luck in the second half of the season.” If he stays in west London, it remains to be seen how much the youngster will do for Chelsea this season.
He made his debut for the club in the EFL Cup win against AFC Wimbledon in August. With the likes of Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Raheem Sterling likely to see minutes ahead of him on the right.
This season could see him experience alongside some of the best players in world football.
