Duke University basketball commit Cooper Flagg has been named the 2024 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year, marking his second consecutive win of this prestigious award. This achievement places Flagg among an elite group of high school athletes who have received the honor multiple times.
Flagg, a 6-foot-9 forward from Montverde Academy in Florida, led his team to a perfect 30-0 record during the 2023-24 season. He averaged 16.1 points on 54.8 percent shooting, 7.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.7 blocks per game. His exceptional performance contributed significantly to Montverde Academy’s national championship win, solidifying their status as one of the greatest high school teams ever.
In August 2023, Flagg reclassified into the 2024 class and later committed to Duke, joining what is considered one of the best recruiting classes in recent memory. The Blue Devils’ 2024 class ranks first in 247Sports’ composite rankings, featuring six total commitments, including Flagg as the No. 1 overall prospect.
Flagg’s accolades extend beyond the court. In October 2024, he became the first NCAA men’s basketball player to sign a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal with Gatorade, joining a roster that includes notable athletes like Jayson Tatum and Paige Bueckers.
As Flagg prepares to begin his collegiate career at Duke, expectations are high for the young phenom. His combination of size, skill, and maturity positions him as a potential game-changer for the Blue Devils and a future star in the NBA.
