In a landmark move for women’s college basketball, the University of South Carolina has announced a historic contract extension for head coach Dawn Staley. The agreement, approved by the university’s Board of Trustees, extends Staley’s tenure through the 2029-30 season and positions her as the highest-paid coach in women’s college basketball history.
The contract, valued at approximately $25.25 million, includes a starting annual salary of $4 million, with a $250,000 increase each subsequent season. Additionally, Staley will receive a $500,000 signing bonus.
Staley expressed her gratitude and commitment, stating, “I’m proud to represent the University of South Carolina and of its investment in women’s basketball.” She emphasized the collective effort behind the program’s success, acknowledging players, staff, university leadership, and the community.
Athletics Director Jeremiah Donati praised Staley’s impact, calling her a “once-in-a-generation coach” who has significantly elevated the university’s profile.
Since her appointment in 2008, Staley has transformed the Gamecocks into a powerhouse, securing three national championships in 2017, 2022, and 2024. Under her leadership, the team has made six Final Four appearances and maintained a top-10 presence in the AP poll for over 100 consecutive weeks.
This extension not only underscores Staley’s unparalleled contributions but also reflects the university’s dedication to sustaining excellence in women’s basketball. As the Gamecocks prepare for the upcoming season, fans can anticipate continued dominance under Staley’s guidance.
